The FLUORESCENT lamps

The fluorescent lamp is a type of lamp created by Nikola Tesla, introduced in the consumers’ market in 1938. Contrarily to the filament bulbs, it has a great efficiency as it emits more electromagnetic energy in form of light, than heat.

How it works

Then fluorescent lamps are discharge lamps and in their tube mercury particles are inserted. These particles, in contact with the electros made available by the energy in the conductors collide with the mercury particles, provoking a reaction that brings luminosity.

In order to maximize this lighting, the glass tube where the “mercury gas” is inserted is coated with phosphor based material and when made exposed to this reaction generated ultraviolet radiation, it produces the visible light that one can see in the fluorescent lamps.

What composes a fluorescent lamp
Circuit of a fluorescent lamp

A: Fluorescent Tube;

B: Eletric energy (+220 Volts);

C: Starter;

D: Switch (Bi-metallic Thermostat);

E: Capacitor/ Condenser;

F: Filaments;

G: Ballast;

Wuere it is applied

The incandescent lamp is used from the domestic use to the industrial one.

Eficiência e durabilidade
As lâmpadas fluorescentes são mais econômicas que as incandescentes. E no Brasil, ganharam mercado após o apagão de 2001.
